Established in 1975, Murdoch University is one of Australia’s leading emerging universities and is well known for its international outlook and commitment to social justice and equity. We encourage a philosophy of ‘free thinking’ and support work-related experience alongside academic study.

In addition to its main campus in Perth, Murdoch also has campuses in Singapore and Dubai, and offers more than 200 undergraduate and postgraduate courses across a range of disciplines. The schools of study within the university include Arts, Business & Governance, Education, Engineering & Information Technology, Health Professions, Psychology & Exercise Science, Public Policy & International Affairs and Veterinary & Life Science.

As featured in the 2016 Good Universities Guide, we have a 5-star rating for our staff to student ratio, so you’ll always have access to the support you need. The university adopts a flexible approach to learning to help students juggle their academic work around lifestyle commitments.

School of Education

The School of Education is a foundation school of Murdoch University and has a proud tradition of engagement with schools and service to the teaching profession. Our principal purpose is to provide high quality courses in pre-service teacher education at Early Childhood, Primary, Secondary and Tertiary and Adult Education levels. We are committed to social justice and inclusivity, building partnerships locally and globally, and graduating effective practitioners and life long learners. We provide students with opportunities to apply theory in a practical environment. Through a range of work-integrated learning, practicum placements, hands-on projects and internship experiences, you will learn exactly what you need to know to meet the contemporary demands of the teaching profession.

As accreditation authorities require teachers to engage in continuing education, accordingly the School of Education offers graduate and postgraduate programs for teachers as well as short courses for professional development. Our Graduate Certificate of Education (International Education) and Master of Education (Coursework) is recognised by the International Baccalaureate, and graduates receive dual certification from Murdoch and the IB. Both programs are offered in Perth and Dubai campuses in a range of online, face-to-face and blended options. Our range of elective units also enable students to tailor their studies by focusing on: cultural diversity, language acquisition, ICT and e-learning, curriculum studies (early childhood /primary/secondary), and/or leadership.

Research
Research is an important part of work of the School of Education. As well as supporting a thriving group of researchers at masters and doctoral levels, School of Education academics engage in research that informs practice and contributes to the collective knowledge of the educational community. At the heart of all of our research is a commitment to improving educational opportunities, experiences and outcomes, for a range of stakeholders and communities, across a range of contexts. International and comparative perspectives and a commitment to educational equity inform much of our research. The School’s current areas of research strength are:

– Engagement with diverse learners and contexts

– STEM and STEAM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics)

– Education policy

– Learning sciences.
