School and Curriculum

Berlin Brandenburg International School (BBIS) is an inclusive, coeducational English-language day and boarding school serving the internationally-minded community of Germany's capital region. An International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, BBIS is fully authorized by the IB organization to teach all four IB programmes (the IB Primary Years Programme, the IB Middle Years Programme, the IB Diploma Programme and the IB Career-Related Programme) covering the 3 to 19 age range. Early Education follows the principles of the Reggio Emilia concept.

BBIS is a leading international school, inspiring students in pursuit of lifelong learning and excellence. We celebrate diversity in a caring, internationally minded community. As an inclusive school, we empower learners to fulfil their unique potential.

We guide our students to become responsible, compassionate global citizens.

BBIS was founded in 1990 as International School Berlin-Potsdam. Since 2001, the school campus is located in the town of Kleinmachnow, in a wooded setting just outside the southwest of Berlin where BBIS owns over 350.000sqm of land.

BBIS serves the greater Berlin/Brandenburg area, which has a population of approximately 4.5 million people. Many students come from embassy communities. Students from 65 countries attend the school. Most families expect their children to enter university after graduation.

Staff is as international as the students are - around 25 nationalities are represented amongst teachers and assistants.

Boarding facilities provide accommodation for 70 students (2018: 120 students) on the school campus, with trained mentors to support and supervise 24/7 for 39 weeks per year.

Beyond the Classroom

It is our goal to stimulate and encourage all students to participate in after school activities and extra-curricular productions. BBIS staff members and external instructors offer their time and commitment to supporting students outside the classroom - whether it be coaching sports teams, producing musicals, leading trips or supporting student leadership initiatives. We are committed to ensuring each student can find a positive environment to help their holistic development, which includes the chance to develop new friendships, share and develop passions, integrate into an international community while participating in cultural exchange.

Membership & Accreditations

The School is a member of ECIS, CIS, AGIS (Association of German International Schools) and CEESA and is fully accredited by the Council of International Schools and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
