Bryanston is different from other independent schools. Inspired by 90 years of innovative practice, our approach to education and our distinctive culture nurtures purposeful, curious and well-rounded individuals.
At the heart of Bryanston's approach is our distinctive method of education, the Bryanston Method. It has been the keystone of the School's philosophy since our foundation in 1928, tailored to the needs and interests of each pupil. There is no Bryanston 'type' - we want our pupils to think for themselves.
Alongside high academic standards and expectations, we provide an emotionally and intellectually supportive environment, allowing pupils to develop independent, creative, and unbounded thinking. We encourage innovation and creativity in all areas of the curriculum, believing that imagination, perspective, and boldness are applicable in all subjects.
Pastoral care sits at the centre of everything we do and integrates with the academic through our one-to-one tutorial system. Each pupil is carefully matched to their tutor and the relationship lasts for the duration of their time at Bryanston. The tutor guides each pupil in becoming responsible for their own learning and discusses their wellbeing and progress at the weekly tutorial.
This ethos is reflected in the principles of the IB, making it a natural fit at Bryanston where we offer both the IB Diploma Programme and the IB Career-related Programme. In 2022, our eighth cohort of IB Diploma pupils achieved an average score of 37 points.
Entrance procedures for our IB courses at Sixth Form require candidates to sit both an English and a maths test, have an interview with the Head and meet Heads of Departments. Candidates unable to attend our Test and Interview Day can sit their papers at a suitable venue overseas and have a Skype interview with the Head. Successful candidates are invited to an induction week in July to explore their chosen subjects before confirming their academic programme. This gives candidates the chance to familiarise themselves with the School, make friends and get to know their tutor. You can also attend an Information Afternoon, held in the autumn before you would be due to join us.
Outside the curriculum there is a fulfilling academic enrichment programme, as well as over 100 extra-curricular activities ranging from beekeeping and music production to eSports and filmmaking. As a full-time boarding school, weekends are an integral part of life at Bryanston, with the chance to participate in a range of sports fixtures, outdoor activities and rehearsals.
