Bucklands Beach Intermediate School opened in 1976 to provide quality education to preadolescent students in the 11-13 year age group. Our mission is 'To educate, guide and mentor all students to become successful, internationally minded, lifelong learners.' The current school roll sits at 800, consisting of students from a diverse range of global backgrounds.

BBI is located in the Eastern suburbs of Auckland, in close proximity to several outstanding beaches. The city centre is 30 minutes away, accessible by motor vehicle and scheduled ferry services. Our site is spacious and our learning areas are well-equipped. BBI strives to be at the forefront of digital learning, and has invested heavily in hardware and infrastructure. Approximately 60% of our students own personal digital devices which are fully integrated into teacher pedagogy.

We offer students a combination of generalist Primary style learning and elements of specialist education experienced in Secondary schools. Special in-depth education is required to help students through these 'middle years' and our curriculum has been designed to assist and prepare them for this transition. We seek to structure programmes which cater for the needs of all our students, enabling them to reach their fullest potential. Learning at BBI is wide ranging and covers not only academic fields, but many physical and cultural areas as well.

Our students develop self-awareness, courage and confidence in themselves as risk-takers in their learning. They are proud of our achievements, recognising their uniqueness. They become confident decision makers, and have high expectations of themselves and others.

In turn, BBI provides the structures, the environment and the support to enable each learner to meet with success. There is a positive school culture based on mutual respect and understanding, inspiring all to strive for their personal best.

For students to be successful, we establish a partnership between students, teachers and family, all working together in the best interests of the learner. The school actively promotes this partnership.

Student learning is the focus for all that we do.
