We are becoming proficient in all that we do.
Who we are
Chestnut Ridge Middle School (CRMS) is one of fourteen schools in the East Ramapo Central School District (ERCSD), located in Rockland County, New York that serves 37,000 students from 47 countries. The District serves students in the Towns of Ramapo, Clarkstown, and Haverstraw. The student population of Chestnut Ridge speaks more than 13 languages and comes from 18 countries. The Faculty embraces the mission to ensure that each student reaches his or her academic potential, and the International Baccalaureate Program has been instrumental in changing the culture of the school. As an enriching supplement to the academic experience, students enjoy the performing arts at CRMS. In addition to participating in two musical plays each year, students have the option of performing in marching band, concert band, or orchestra. Participation in athletics is encouraged for students and there are a variety of sports that students can enjoy, including Football, Soccer, Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Field Hockey, and Track and Field. Extracurricular activities enhance and support the development of the whole child, and at CRMS we strive to ensure that there is something for everyone to explore and to enjoy.
CRMS has a cooperative and supportive collegial environment that fosters the delivery of instruction through collaboration of General Education Teachers with ENL Teachers and/or Special Education Teachers. Through curriculum development, instructional partnerships, and the honing of identified professional skills that all members of the Chestnut Ridge Middle School instructional staff continuously refine, we are committed to supporting students’ needs. Additionally, teachers are supported in cross-coordination for curriculum development as well as in sharing best practices for the method and delivery of instruction. At CRMS, social-emotional learning is as important as the academic offerings. Students are encouraged to seek and develop their interests. As our students leave CRMS to enter high school, the goal for each student is to continue their development as global thinkers who can think critically and have a passion to serve their community.
