Ellesmere College is a fully co-educational day and boarding school set in the beautiful English countryside. Founded in 1884, the school offers students between the ages of 7 to 18 the chance to achieve success both academically and in a wide range of co-curricular activities including music, art, sport and drama in world class facilities and award winning programmes.

At Ellesmere College great emphasis has always been placed on the breadth of education on offer and the Sixth Form is no exception. The International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme, now in its 10th year at Ellesmere, widens this breadth further than the usual A level suite and BTEC Diploma, and builds on already established strengths within the College such as our sporting reputation, outward bound opportunities, community based activities and the Arena Arts programme.

The Ellesmere IB delivers a two-year programme of advanced academic study, and offers a much broader curriculum than A-Levels, enabling students to acquire a more balanced subject profile. It encourages independent learning, and is widely respected and accepted by universities worldwide, because of the range of skills it develops.

Our unique position as a World Academy Of Sport (WAoS) accredited centre also allows Ellesmere College to run the IB over three years to cater exclusively for elite athletes who are combining a busy training and competing schedule with their studies.

It also allows students to feel more confident when they begin a degree course - students from the IB Diploma have significantly lower university drop-out rates than students who follow the more familiar A-level system.

Mr Brendan Wignall, Headmaster of Ellesmere College, explains, "The IB is a rewarding but demanding course, and is a fantastic preparation for university. The fact that IB students study 6 subjects, write an extended essay, follow a course in the Theory of Knowledge and are assessed on their extra-curricular commitment means that they really have a very full education, providing them with something which will last for the rest of their lives."

Ellesmere IB students have consistently performed well above average with regular achievements of 37 points and above and the maximum score of 45 points achieved by a selection of the IB cohort since its inauguration. Graduates have progressed onto a variety of courses and universities worldwide, including many of the Russell Group Universities in the UK, and overseas.

Sixth Form Scholarships and bursaries are available to study the International Baccalaureate and A levels at Ellesmere College. Additional information can be found on the School's website: www.ellesmere.com or call to arrange a visit: 01691 626510.
