George Watson's College is a leading independent day school that provides high quality learning and teaching from Nursery through to S6. Located in Edinburgh, Watson's 52-acre campus, is home to over 2,400 pupils and offers a broad and varied range of academic and extracurricular activities for all levels.
Our IB results in 2017/18 were outstanding. Our pass rate was 94.4%, with 100% pass rate for pupils sitting IB for the first time. Of our candidates three achieved 40 points or more, out of a maximum 45 points, with three achieving a very impressive 41 points, putting them on a par with the very best performing candidates across the globe. The average point score awarded to pupils sitting the diploma for the first time was 36.2.
We have an open policy for examinations, pupils are encouraged to make their own choices about which subjects to sit and we do not block them for going forward to examinations.
Outside the Classroom
Our pupils are encouraged to challenge themselves both academically and through the broad range of extra-curricular activities which the school provides. All our third year pupils participate in S3 Projects, a two-week outdoor education programme that has been a feature of the school since 1962.
Trips and exchanges provide opportunities to visit Spain, Germany, France, USA, or further afield to South Africa, Australia, Malawi or our partner school in Taiwan.
Our Homestay programme enables senior pupils to join our International Baccalaureate Programme or to study for Scottish Qualifications in S5 and S6 even if their home is abroad or is otherwise too far from Edinburgh to travel to the school every day. In joining our Homestay Programme pupils are able to enjoy life in Edinburgh, one of Europe's greatest cities with a history, cultural life and intellectual dynamism unlike any other. Edinburgh hosts four universities and many other academic and cultural institutions with which we enjoy close links.
Location and Facilities
The school's Nursery, Junior and Senior pupils are all housed on the same campus which includes state of the art sports facilities, music school, art department, technology building and drama studios. Watson's provides leading IT facilities, including Wi-Fi for all, latest technology and the ability for senior pupils to bring their own device.
Our Family Foundation provides a number of bursaries, scholarships and other financial assistance, helping to widen access to the school. The Family Foundation was set up in 1997 and exists to continue the spirit of the legacy left by George Watson.
