Established 76 years ago, Markham College is a regional influence in South America for educational leadership and academic excellence. We are an independent school that provides bilingual education to children from 3-18 years of age at our Miraflores and Surco campuses in Lima, Peru.
Markham has a British heritage and international perspective. We have an adapted British Curriculum that respects our distinct Peruvian setting. Our Early Years bilingual programme starts at 3 years old and leads them towards IGCSE and the International Baccalaureate Diploma programmes. Our IB program, with over 27 subjects, gives students the tools to succeed in universities worldwide. We encourage diversity and support passion by allowing our students to choose from over 100 different extracurricular activities and sports.
Our mission is to support children to become leaders in their chosen fields and be agents of change in Peru and the world. To achieve this, our curriculum is underpinned by the pillars of academic and creative endeavour, character development and service learning. Our outdoor education programme (HELIX) and social programmes are our special and unique features. They ensure that students receive a balanced and rounded education focusing on how they can make a difference in society. Furthermore, our student leadership programme means that students are a central part of the decision-making process with regard to their learning experiences.
Our teachers are also tutors and integral to our children's pastoral care. Supporting our students' emotional, psychological, and physical development and academic growth is central to our educational philosophy throughout their Markham journey.
Peru's rich cultural history and its fantastic territory offer a wealth of opportunities for unforgettable experiences. Over 3000 km of Pacific Ocean coastline through the majestic Andean high peaks to the vast Amazon rainforest provide an infinite number of places, sports and adventures. Numerous field trips ensure that the IB curriculum is enriched by the geographic and demographic variety Peru offers. International exchanges, debates and Model United Nations ensure that IB students receive an education steeped in logical and global contexts.
New world-class primary facilities are being built in Monterrico's 27,778 m2 campus which will be finished in 2024. It is a state-of-the-art educational facility reflecting the school's advanced pedagogic approach.
Markham is moving away from the traditional four-wall classroom, developing flexible learning spaces that encourage independent learning in different environments. Teachers are developing new ways of working and collaborating across groups and disciplines in our 'Learning Communities' already built in the San Antonio Campus. Architect Rosan Bosch has worked with the school to show how breakout spaces and rooms for immersion give students at Markham more autonomy and choices in planning and executing their learning journey.
