NBHIS is a growing International School of 740 students, in Ningbo, China. We are the only three-programme IB school in Zhejiang province (we are a candidate school for the MYP).

Our bilingual Early Years and PYP programmes draw upon the Australian National Curriculum for benchmarks. PYP classes are co-taught, in classrooms with a teacher student ratio of 1-6, by Chinese and foreign teachers, ensuring our students have a firm grounding in both Chinese and Western cultures. NBHIS MYP embraces the inquiry philosophy, while holding to the rigor of strong mathematical achievement, begun with the Singapore Math curriculum in PYP.

Grade 10 is a pre-DP year where students are readied for the Diploma Programme. Grade 10 focuses on skills and offers with intensive laboratory time, careful attention to academic honesty, through citation, and we also focus on practice in communication and organisational skills. The IB DP at NBHIS has an impressive average of 31.5, well above world average. Our DP graduates go on to success in universities in UK, Canada, USA, Hong Kong and Australia.

The campus is shared with Huamao Foreign Language School, a 5 thousand strong K-12 Chinese private boarding and day school. The campus is both beautiful, having a river, a park and numerous trees and gardens, as well as unique, possessing an International Art Gallery, and a Science Museum. NBHIS shares concert halls, dance studios and a 25-meter indoor pool and numerous sports fields and facilities with the Foreign Language School. We have an extensive English fiction collection in the MYP/DP library, and we are building a bilingual PYP library. Recent renovations to NBHIS include an arts suite, compromising visual art, drama, design, and music rooms, with individual work cubicles for senior art students.

The school is a happy place; our youngest students run in each morning eager to be at school. Our MYP students are increasingly making their presence and opinions felt through student-run assemblies and in their service endeavours. In the DP, we are maintaining a strong, independent work ethic, which fosters each individual student's potential.

As we grow, NBHIS is looking to increase outdoor education opportunities, by making outdoor skills a part of every year’s experience, thus providing our students with the wellbeing that such a programme provides. At present, students from grades 4-11 go on camp all over China for one week, our new initiative will see the benefits they get from camp to be a greater part of their year.
