Oakmont High School is a public high school located in the city of Roseville, California. The school opened its doors in 1966 and is the second of five high schools in the Roseville Joint Union High School District (RJUHSD). OHS currently serves a diverse population of approximately 1,900 students from Roseville and surrounding communities. Oakmont's commitment to excellence has been part of our tradition for over 50 years. Our Vision Statement, "Honoring our tradition of excellence with a commitment to the future," reflects both the importance of our history in this community and our recognition that we must prepare students for a constantly changing world. Our Mission Statement emphasizes and defines the importance of success for our students: "At Oakmont we are dedicated to empowering all students to be engaged participants in our OHS community, while fostering an environment where all students graduate college-ready with the skills needed to succeed in a global society." This emphasizes the importance of our dedication to college and career readiness.
Our Viking Expectations define our culture: Choose Respect, Be Responsible, Have Integrity, and Actively Engage. The school operates on a four-by-four block schedule with the school year split into two 18-week terms. Students are enrolled in four classes each term, which is equivalent to two traditional semesters. Therefore, each semester-long course at Oakmont is equal to a yearlong course in a traditional high school.
Students at Oakmont may contribute to student literary productions such as the school newspaper and yearbook, be active in student government groups and leadership, and participate in band and theater productions. Volunteering within the community is strongly encouraged. Opportunities are available to participate in a wide range of interscholastic sports including Golf, Tennis, Volleyball, Water Polo, Cross Country, Football, Basketball, Wrestling, Soccer, Baseball, Softball, Swim, Track, and Diving. There are a broad range of student-run clubs on campus including Chess Club, Computer Club, Creative Arts, Creative Writing, California Scholarship Federation (CSF), Drama, French, Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), Industrial Arts, Interact, Key Club, Mock Trial, Multicultural, Psychology, Scarves for Scholarships, Speech and Debate, Trivia and Ultimate Frisbee.
Oakmont students enjoy access to many school activities run by our very active student government. We balance a traditional American high school experience with the rigor and high expectations of the IB Program.
