The School of Young Politicians (SYP) is a Russian state school located in the Western administrative district of Moscow. It is currently one of the first state schools in Eastern Europe to realise then IB continuum programme alongside the national curriculum. The students have a rare opportunity to receive two Diplomas, both the IB and Russian state.
A great emphasis is placed on selecting the teaching staff: all of our teachers are university graduates with international qualifications from Russia as well as other countries from around the world (currently the UK, USA, Australia, India and France). The school offers them ongoing professional training both in Russia and abroad.
The student body, aged between 3-17, is comprised of children from 44 nationalities. This fact provides for a very international environment that ensures cultural diversity and an ethos of tolerance as well as an open-mindedness beneficial to the educational process.
The school sees its mission as raising holistic life-long learners who care about the world around them. Therefore we offer a wide range of subjects and rigorous assessment as well as a huge variety of extra-curriculum activities such as choir, ballroom dancing, sport dancing, drama classes in English and Russian, robototechnics as well as many others. The school also offers many unique activities as monthly meetings with distinguished people who have achieved public recognition in various fields of life - writers, musicians, philosophers, sportsman, entrepreneurs etc. In addition, the school runs a Club of Young Politicians, where active politicians are invited to speak, discuss and debate burning issues from the world of politics, economics and international relationships.
We don't only pay attention to theoretical knowledge but also put emphasis on transferring this knowledge into real-life situations and making its application practical. To realise this, the school is well equipped with libraries, science laboratories, a botanic garden, both indoor and outdoor sport stadiums and other sporting facilities, dance halls, choreography classrooms as well as a fully-equipped theatre and cinema halls. Each classroom is equipped with interactive white boards and projectors.
Specifically in the arts field the school hosts and annual international arts festival that encourages and promotes theatre, dance and choral singing. A top panel of judges and professionally offered workshops and masterclasses offer students both a competitive and supportive experience that culminates in public performances in a prestigious Moscow theatre.
The school plays a vital role in the life of the community. Children initiate and realise various projects addressing the needs of disadvantaged children, war veterans, victims of domestic abuse and others in need. As volunteers they support the work of several charity organisations, initiate fund-raising activities and other socially important campaigns.
During its seventeen years the school has been nominated for numerous awards and prizes. A recent special independent survey published in Tatler magazine called our school "unique". It offers a happy, productive environment for children to learn.
