Introduction of Shenzhen Shiyan Public School
Founded in April 1995, Shiyan Public School is located at the foot of the beautiful Yangtai Mountain. It covers an area of 132,000 square meters and a building area of 90,000 square meters. Shiyan Public School is a public welfare joint-stock school founded by both the government and business enterprises. It is the first First-Class School in Guangdong Province among the non-governmental schools in Shenzhen. The school is composed of six departments: Preschool Education (including a kindergarten, and an early education center), Primary School, Junior High School, Senior High School, Bilingual and IB International. Over 6,750 students attend Shenzhen Shiyan Public School and the teaching staff is over 650.
SYPS International Section was founded in August 2008 and offers two types of courses: IBDP courses for Chinese students who want to study abroad and HSK courses for foreign students who want to study in China. Students in this department are made up of Chinese students, as well as, foreign students from countries such as Korea, Indonesia, and Thailand. In 2014, SYPS International Section was approved by Shenzhen Education Bureau as an Experimental High School For International Education. On October 15, 2015, it gained the formal authorization as an IBDP project and officially became a licensed IB International member school.
Mission Statement of the International Department
With the guidance and philosophy of International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and based on the international development model of Shiyan Public School, it provides high-quality international education for high school students aged 15-19. It aims to cultivate talents with a multi-cultural, international vision, and well-rounded development. It is committed to providing students with a good foundation so they can successfully integrate with education in the world. It also provides students with a personalized study-career plan to prepare them for success at universities in foreign countries.
Teachers and Methodology
SYPS International Section has a strong faculty. Eighty percent of the teachers have Master's Degrees, and two have Ph.D. degrees. Foreign teachers of the International Section come from all over the world, including the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia and other English native-speaking countries.
Colorful CAS Activities
The students carry out a series of CAS activities including Cooking Club, Guitar Club, Model Plane Competition, University Application Club, Badminton Club, and the Chess Club. These colorful club activities enable students to learn teamwork and problem-solving skills, develop care for others and the society, and engage in public welfare activities.
