Somersfield is a co-educational day school serving children from age 3 to 18. Students in the Children's House and Lower Primary Divisions follow the Montessori programme. The Upper Primary Division is designed for students aged 9 through 11. Secondary Division students aged 11-18 follow the International Baccalaureate Programmes: the 5 year Middle Years Programme (MYP) followed by the 2 year Diploma Programme (DP). The school received formal authorisation in 2005 from the IB in Geneva, Switzerland to conduct the MYP and became the first school in Bermuda to offer this programme. DP authorisation was awarded in 2019 and the school opened its new purpose-built DP building to our students in Sept 2019.
The five-year MYP offers students a rigorous, comprehensive and well-rounded academic preparation for moving on to the final two years, (grades 11 and 12) with the internationally-regarded IB Diploma Programme.
College Preparation
The IB Diploma Programme is an academically challenging and balanced programme of education with rigorous coursework and final examinations that prepare students, aged 16-19, for success at university and in life beyond. The DP aims to encourage students to be knowledgeable, inquiring, caring, open-minded and to develop intercultural understanding and the attitude necessary to appreciate a range of viewpoints. In addition to their DP courses, students wishing to attend a US University are supported with SAT preparation classes in English and Math.
