Founded in 1976, Southlands International School is one of the oldest and only truly international school in the south of Rome. We offer six key programmes for students between the ages of 3 and 18 years old. The school is non-denominational and welcomes pupils from all cultures and backgrounds. Children from over thirty-five countries attend the school.

Having the best teachers is the key to our students’ progress and success. All of our teachers are mother-tongue English speakers and hold teaching qualifications as well as academic credentials. Southlands is an International Baccalaureate World School authorised to offer the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) in the senior school.

The whole school is fully aligned with the IB ethos. This philosophy and methodology extends far beyond examination success and its basic principle is to support the development of lifelong learners and global leaders in a caring and supportive capacity.

With our international student community in mind, the completion of the IB Diploma Programme is often the best pathway for students wishing to continue their international education.

In order to be truly successful in the IBDP programme students need to follow a rigorous pre-IB syllabus. This is achieved by undertaking other established and successful education programmes.

At Southlands, we start this process in our Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception) where we follow the Early Years Foundation programme of England. Children then follow the National Curriculum for England from Year 1 (5 years old) until Year 9 (13 years old).

Our aim is for our students to be confident, caring, resilient, inquisitive young adults with a desire to learn and achieve the best they can, in all they do. Very effective teaching and exceptionally positive attitudes amongst pupils are instrumental in ensuring that pupils make excellent progress both academically and personally.

We offer them an abundance of opportunities to enrich their learning, including regular visitors to the school and trips to local places of interest. We also offer opportunities for residential activities from Year 6 to Year 12.

Our school is set in five acres of parkland, which include gardens, orchards, playgrounds and sports fields. This space allows students to enjoy the outdoor classroom and learn about the environment, insects, flowers and birds. We even have a friendly school rabbit who wanders freely around the grounds!

The values of the IB Learner Profile are apparent throughout the whole school. Students are encouraged to become curious and independent learners through participating actively in carefully graded practical and exciting learning experiences. In this way they experience success, achieve self-confidence and become motivated individuals.

Southlands International School is a proud member of the Globeducate network. Formerly known as NACE Schools, Globeducate is one of the leading education networks in Europe. This brings many new opportunities for our community. Our students and teachers benefit from exchange of best practices and a range of annual art, sports and inter-cultural events with other schools across the Globeducate network.
