The Terakki Foundation Schools have a distinguished place in the educational history of Turkey. Founded in Salonica under the name "Mekteb-i Terakki" (Terakki: Progress) in 1877, it was relocated to Istanbul in 1921 and adopted the name Sisli Terakki School". Today, it is a leading co-educational institution, which has kept pace with global educational and social advances for over a century.

The Terakki Foundation Schools are comprised of Terakki Kindergarten, Primary School, High School and Science High School, and are headquartered in the center of Istanbul on the European side of the city. As of 2014, Terakki Foundation Schools also operate from a second campus on the Asian side of Istanbul.

In our schools, the Turkish National Curriculum is followed, however in all departments we actively supplement this content through the ongoing development of our own original academic curricula tied to the highest international standards. Terakki Foundation Schools have been an IB World School from PYP since 2014 and from DP since 2013.

The medium of instruction in our schools is Turkish, with the exception of many subjects in IBDP, which are taught in English. English as a foreign language is taught extensively to further improve students' communicative, academic, and cognitive skills. French, German and Spanish are also offered electively as second foreign languages.

Extracurricular Activities: In order to enrich the experiences of our students, we offer many social activities and clubs. The Robotics, Project Competitions, Mind Games, Junior Achievement, Japanese Culture, First Lego League, Slow Food, Terakki Music, Drama, Children's Rights, 3D Design, Philosophy, Social Awareness Platform, Modern Dance, and Global Issues Network Clubs are just some of the more than 50 social clubs that Terakki offers.

Facilities: Our schools' facilities are regularly modernized. There are classrooms with advanced technologies, laboratories, libraries (60,000 titles including e-books) meeting rooms, 8 insulated music rooms, 4 large theatre and conference halls, dining halls with a total capacity of 1600 people, an IT centre, a cultural centre, and a professionally managed art gallery. The Sports Complex includes a fitness centre, a sauna, massage rooms, three swimming pools, one of which is indoor, a professional pitch, two tennis courts and an artificial rock climbing wall.

The campus covers 26,400 m2 (built space 44,000 m2, open area 6,100 m2).
