"Once an Eagle, always an Eagle"

71 Years of Excellence: 1946 to 2018

The American School of Tegucigalpa is a student-centered, college preparatory institution that fosters globally-responsible citizens and leaders by offering a rigorous, international education which promotes core values in a safe, innovative, and collaborative environment.

The perspective that Honduras is a "hidden gem" in Central America will not stay under the radar much longer. The diversity and beauty of the country and its people offer something for everyone.

AST has committed itself to embedding 21st century pedagogical practices into the fabric of its learning community. At The American School of Tegucigalpa, the slogan "Once an Eagle, always an Eagle" is commonly spoken out loud, but is clearly held as a certainty among all members of its family. Currently, AST serves students from 15 nations. Students can complete the following High School Diplomas: the Honduran Bachillerato, the American High School Diploma, and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. Students not seeking the IB Diploma are encouraged to take as many IB Courses possible. Also, Spanish as a second language is offered to all international students.

AST's facilities consist of 2 cafeterias, one large indoor gym, one large outside covered court and lighted soccer field, a state of the art auditorium, 90 classrooms which include 4 Science labs and 4 computer labs with 30 terminals each. The Jefferson Valle Media Center is accessible to all students and staff 24/7 and include access to Destiny School's Online Catalog, ABC-CLIO, Noodle Tools, and EBSCO.

The IB Diploma Programme has been embedded into the curriculum since 2002. IB data from the past 7 years (provided below) provides an honest perspective of the strength of its IB program.

  • Approximately 35% of our students have been/are IB Full Diploma Candidates
  • Approximately 90% of IB Full Diploma Candidates have earned the IB Diploma; the world average has been 80% during this same period of time.
  • 99% of IB Full Diploma Candidates have sought the IB Bilingual Diploma: the world average is 32%
  • Continual attention to holistic teaching and learning is supported by a plethora of extra-curricular activities and sports (basketball, soccer, and volleyball) in which students are engaged in outside of their classes. Continual reflection of their interactions within these groups are supervised and given significant attention.
