The International School in Genoa was founded in 1966 as a private co-educational day school to serve the needs of the international and national communities in Liguria. A high school program was begun in the fall of 2000 and the school was authorized to start teaching the International Baccalaureate diploma program in the fall of 2002.
The International School in Genoa is the only school in Liguria that offers a complete international education in the English language for all students from Pre-School (age 3) to Grade 12 (age 18) leading to the achievement of both the ISG High School Diploma and the IB Diploma. It is currently home to an international student body of 385 students of 32 different nationalities.
ISG provides an ideal setting for students to learn in a serene, supportive and stimulating environment: the school is located on a magnificent 6000 square meter campus of historical gardens in Genova-Quarto. The students learn in the beautiful grounds of a restored 14th-century Benedictine abbey.
The Early Childhood and Elementary schools follow the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), an inquiry-based program emphasizing students taking an active part in their learning. The International Baccalaureate curriculum provides the ideal framework in which to promote the concepts, skills, and attitudes that foster this evolution and understanding. The language and culture of the local Italian community offer rich resources to complement and support our philosophy of bilingualism. Italian as a second language is offered to all students; French and Spanish are offered as a third language to Middle and High School students.
Since the first high school graduating class in the spring of 2004, 97.5% of ISG candidates have earned the IB diploma. Our students' success is due in large part to our small class sizes, highly qualified and dedicated teachers, and the support and interest ISG educators give to our students. We offer a Student Support Services Department and provide a College Guidance Program with the objective for students to gain offers from the universities that best suit their future academic and personal aspirations.
The International School in Genoa is accredited by CIS, the Council of International Schools. It is a UNICEF ambassador school and a founding member of AIBWSI, the Association of IB World Schools in Italy.
ISG offers several after-school activities for its students, including sports and activities (soccer, rugby, cross country, Taekwondo, volleyball, cheerleading, Zumba), languages (Chinese, German, French, Spanish), music as well as arts and crafts, computer, yearbook, school newspaper, and SAT prep. ISG students also have the opportunity to participate in the school's Model United Nations club and have participated in MUN events throughout Europe.
