Council School is a magnet school that is located near the downtown area of Mobile, Alabama. The school serves a diverse population of students from all over the county. Presently, the school's enrollment is 673 students. Council School has received numerous awards and recognition for outstanding academics, clubs and enrichment programs. Council serves as the only International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme in the county. All students receive academic instruction in the core curriculum, Spanish, Art, Music, Science Lab and Technology.

The school has a stellar staff of highly qualified teachers trained in the core curriculum, IBO Curriculum, technology, and AMSTI (Alabama Science and math hands-on instruction). The Parent Teacher Association is an integral component of Council Elementary School, and has achieved 100% membership for the past 28 years. The organization has demonstrated excellence and has been awarded on all levels for its partnership with the school.

In 2013, Council was nationally recognized as a Blue Ribbon School. Council was one of 250 schools to receive this honor. The principal, Hattie Alexander, was one of seven recipients of the 2013 Terrel H. Bell Award given to principals who are innovative and implement strategies for academic challenges.

In 2015, Council received the CLAS Banner School award, a recognition for schools with outstanding educational programs. Council students have met and exceeded average yearly progress every year. Council's 5th graders were ranked #1 for their writing scores. The Council Math team has won 1st place in the county’s competition for the last two years.

Council is warm, friendly, and inviting, nestled in a small neighborhood called "Down the Bay" in Mobile, Alabama. The campus has a beautiful outdoor classroom featuring a gazebo and a butterfly garden. One original building remains on the campus and is a part of the Mobile Historic Preservation Society. Living up to its namesake, (Dr. William Hooper Council, the first president of Alabama A & M University) has been a remarkable accomplishment. The community is very proud of Council’s continuous accomplishments. Council's state testing data was #1 in Mobile County Public School System and #6 in the state overall during the 2016-2017 school year. This year, Council will celebrate 30 years as a Magnet School. Many programs and recognition activities will take place. Council is presently under the leadership of Hattie Alexander, Principal and Mr. Chresal Threadgill, Superintendent.
