Who We Are

Founded in 2003 with a mission to achieve academic excellence and develop life-long learners who become well balanced, responsible global citizens, Westlake Academy is the first and only municipally-owned charter school in the State of Texas, USA.

IB World School

Westlake Academy was the fifth public school in the US offering three IB programmes (PYP,MYP, DP) on a single campus. The IB curriculum and the school's smaller class sizes are enhanced by a breath-taking outdoor campus of innovatively designed stone-clad buildings clustered among 23 acres of verdant pastures and the crown of oak-adorned hills. Imagine how this helps create a premier, knowledge based community that is truly unique.

Westlake Academy is an open enrollment college preparatory charter school, where great care and consideration is given to the mission and vision by the town leaders, citizens and education staff dedicated to academic excellence and personal achievement. International Mindedness

Providing an internationally minded education of the highest quality means students will become globally well-balanced. This is not an alternative to cultural and national identity, but an essential component of life in the 21st century. Successful interaction requires our students to clearly communicate, solve problems in a global context and collaborate with individuals from around the world.

Extracurricular Activities

Westlake Academy believes that student clubs, societies and after school activities allow young citizens to further their academic foundation while developing essential interpersonal skills. Practicing the IB learner traits outside the classroom is a powerful endorsement of our school's mission in athletics, dancing, music, art, technology and specialty niches including chess, math, coding and science.

Global Citizenship & Collaboration

As internationally minded educators, Westlake Academy creates authentic global collaboration experiences that prepare our students to meet the demands of the 21st century marketplace while encouraging them to think globally and act locally:

  • MEXICO & CANADA: Our students engage in a Summer Spanish Immersion Program in San Miguel de Allende and a French Immersion Program in Canada
  • CANADA, COSTA RICA & ARGENTINA: Student and teacher exchange programs offered with a school in Costa Rica and another school in Argentina
  • GERMANY - CHINA - OMAN: Students can apply for International Student Leadership Symposium with at least 12 global schools in different countries
  • GLOBAL SERVICE: Extended travel choices with Student Shoulder-to-Shoulder includes destinations like Tibet, Peru, Kenya, Nepal and more
  • LEADERSHIP: Our teachers host Westlake Academy International Mindedness Educator Symposium
  • CLASS TRIPS: Students are given experiential travel opportunities beginning in third grade
  • TECHNOLOGY: Global collaboration with teachers and students in a 1:1 iPad learning environment
