AOSR has proudly offered the IB International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme since 1989, one of the first schools to offer it in Rome and we boast a 100% IB Diploma pass rate for our students.

The IBDP is a highly challenging, two-year, pre-university program of studies for Grade 11 and 12 students, and our experienced faculty have guided our students to access some of the most important universities around the world. Some of the university acceptances of 2022 include MIT, UC Berkeley, University of Toronto, University of California Los Angeles, Bocconi, King’s College London, the United States Naval Academy, to name a few.

The focus of the IB Diploma Programme at AOSR aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better world through intercultural understanding and respect.

Students apply for the program in Grade 10 and the application is submitted by our IB Coordinator. The teacher recommendations will be reviewed by the IB Coordinator and the Secondary School Principal. If a student wishes to participate in the program, they will be registered and a meeting will be arranged with parents to determine the program of studies and to sign the IB Diploma Programme Regulations.

Prior to registration, students must understand the commitment to the extra components of the program: Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and Creativity, Action, and Service (CAS).

AOSR offers 22 IB courses, one of the most comprehensive programs in Italy, and some of the key takeaways for the students that undertake the IB program at AOSR are:

  • We encourage our students to think critically and challenge assumptions, while also developing research, interpersonal, and self-management skills.
  • IB students learn to ask questions. This is a great habit to have as an adult. Companies want employees who question their own assumptions and can approach problems from different angles.
  • Students learn how to plan ahead, organize their time and prioritize tasks effectively. These skills set them up for success not only in school but also in their future careers.

AOSR IB students have historically gained admission to prestigious universities in the United States, Europe, and throughout the world. Because of its equipollence with the Italian "Maturità", AOSR students also gain acceptance to top Italian universities as well.

The American Overseas School of Rome has carefully and successfully implemented the IBDP in Rome for decades and offers constant support to our students through our experienced College Counselor and IB Coordinator.
