The Anglo European School is a genuinely distinctive and unique comprehensive school committed, for almost 50 years, to achieving the highest academic success through its international curriculum. The broad and balanced education offered, with its core curriculum of exchanges, international visits and extensive extra-curricular offer, produces open-minded and confident young people who are able to communicate effectively in a variety of languages and who have an appreciation and understanding of different cultures, religions and communities in modern Britain and beyond.

The Sixth Form is outstanding and has been awarded the highest Ofsted grades for over 20 years. In 1977 Anglo European School was the first UK state school to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma and in 2010 became the first UK state school to offer the IB Career-related Programme. It also provides the opportunity to study A Levels, or A Levels with selected parts of the IB Diploma. All students have the opportunity to study a language ranging from introductory level, which assumes no prior knowledge, up to more advanced courses in the A Level and IB Diploma routes. Eight languages are taught: Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, Russian and Spanish. We believe that this gives an unrivalled opportunity for each student to combine qualifications in a way which best suits their needs and makes them stand out in the global employment marketplace.

Situated in Ingatestone, with excellent rail and road connections, local children are joined by children from Essex, Suffolk, Hertfordshire, London and abroad who value its internationalist philosophy based on the mission of the International Baccalaureate. This diversity provides a rich education which prepares succeeding generations of students for the world they will live and work in, whatever their background or ability. It really is an education fit for the 21st Century.

A remarkable feature of the school is its visits and exchanges programme. Over 700 students every year take part in the exchange programmes and extended study visits in Europe, China and Japan. Sixth Form students also have the opportunity to undertake international work experience in Madrid, Frankfurt, Paris or Venice, to visit the United Nations in Geneva or the historic cities of Krakow and Vienna.

This is a caring, principled and purposeful school which is confident in its ambition and passionate about its mission. It is a school which is determined to ensure that an education with an international dimension leads to high academic success and outstanding personal development for all its students, whatever their background or ability.
