Mission Statement

A spirit of community shapes the A-JIS experience. We are dedicated to developing global-minded, compassionate, collaborative learners inspired to learn, take risks, and lead change in the world.

A-JIS will continue to be a leading international school. We provide our young people with a vigorous international education conducive to learning. Learners' needs and perspectives are supported and respected and their unique qualities valued and nurtured. Through a continued emphasis on educational excellence and innovation, each individual learner is provided with relevant resources and opportunities that will enable them to secure the best of what the future holds for them.

Our Philosophy

We believe that our young people are enabled to reach their full potential as international citizens who are dedicated to learning and who are inspired to succeed in an ever-changing world.

Our 5 core Values

At A-JIS we value the concepts of:

  • Global Leadership
  • Entrepreneurship and Innovation
  • Effective Communication
  • Wise Risk Taking
  • Effective Problem Solving

Our Learning Environment

The school is a welcoming, inclusive and engaging place for learning. We proudly follow the IB curriculum in the PYP, MYP and DP. Owned by BBT (Business Breakthrough University - Japan's largest online university), our recent focus has been on investing in our people and providing contemporary learning environments for our learners. Apart from our renovated playing fields, all our classrooms are equipped with interactive technologies providing connections to the world.

Our Learning Aims

Embracing the IB philosophies and practices, our school aims to support our learners to become global leaders capable of making positive changes in the world. We aim to have all our learners achieve their personal goals by connecting learning, and their development as learners, through constructive and proactive membership within the communities they live in - school, local, home and global. Our learners are encouraged to follow their passions and interests and build the critical and discerning capacities needed to make wise decisions. We have dramatically increased the choices our learners have within school and for when they leave us, be it into university, business, creative industries, or the social sectors in our society.

A-JIS is a caring K-12 learning community set in the peaceful and leafy north-western suburb of Tokyo. It is easily accessible by the Tokyo metro train system and a short 10-minute walk from Hikarigaoka station, which is 25 minutes from downtown Tokyo. The school has a long tradition of being a welcoming and inclusive place of learning and that tradition is being continued under the new ownership of Business Breakthrough University. The partnership between BBT and A-JIS has already produced benefits for our learners and teachers alike. With a focus on investing in our people and learning environments we are driven to provide our young people with a wealth of opportunities to learn, develop as learners and use what they learn to good effect.

Support Program

We provide extensive support for both English as an Additional Language and Learning Support. Our expert teacher teams and faculty have university-level EAL course qualifications.
