Atlanta International School. Developing Courageous Leaders Who Shape Their World For The Better

Founded over thirty years ago by people who wanted a different sort of school in Atlanta, Atlanta International School offers a comprehensive and challenging International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum from 3K to Grade 12, enhanced with a world-class language acquisition program.

At Atlanta International School (AIS) students are focused on developing the skills to creatively collaborate on the challenges of the future and are equipped to become changemakers.

Offering an authentic, nurturing, learning community, AIS values curiosity, empathy and a passion to create a world with environmental, economic and social well-being for everyone.

Faculty from around the world are focused on genuinely getting to know, value and nurture each and every student, and his or her unique skills and strengths. The result is a spirit of community and a celebration of the diversity of perspectives that come from students, families, faculty and staff representing 90 nationalities and over 65 languages.

A full immersion preschool program for children ages three and four is offered in German, French, Chinese and Spanish. From 5K through Grade 5, the inquiry-based IB curriculum is taught in two languages. All faculty are mother tongue speakers of the language they teach.

Students not only learn at least one other language, they learn through language, developing so much more than linguistic proficiency. At AIS students are taught to develop 'intercultural competence', the ability to easily navigate and flow between and among different nationalities and complex cultural situations - and to do so with tremendous empathy, diplomacy and tact.

Students entering Secondary School have varied language backgrounds and a wide range of options to develop their language proficiency, from beginner to taking both Language & Literature and Humanities courses at an advanced level, many choosing to pursue dual language IB Diplomas.

The curriculum is complemented by an extensive range of age-appropriate activities to enhance students' learning experiences beyond the classroom.

The athletics department is home to more than 40 teams pursuing 12 different sports. Theatrical and musical talent is showcased via regular performances alongside frequent art exhibitions.

In Secondary School, in addition to internships that students complete as part of a STEM or STEAM Diploma Endorsement, students participate in many other activities including service projects, Model United Nations, Mock Trial, the AIS Space Program, Robotics and educational international trips.

Parents, alumni, faculty, staff and students actively participate in the growth and sustainability of the school, with community firmly at the centre of all activities. The result is a pioneering and courageous spirit built upon local impact and global reach.
