Escola Americana do Rio de Janeiro is one of Latin America's most respected international teaching institutions. Established in 1937, and an IB World School since 1982, EARJ is a non-profit school, providing an American international education to the expatriate and Brazilian communities of Rio de Janeiro. It blends a rigorous academic program with rich co-curricular opportunities.

EARJ occupies two campuses in different parts of the city, each offering programs from Preschool to the IB Diploma. EARJ is distinctive in that its 1,280 students can work towards graduating with three Diplomas concurrently: the IB Diploma, the US High School Diploma, and the Brazilianc Diploma. Every year, EARJ graduates are accepted to the world's leading universities, and we pride ourselves on each student finding the institution that is best for them. Whilst a few graduates remain to study in Brazil, the vast majority head abroad to the USA, Canada and Europe for university.

EARJ is proud to offer a holistic education that, through the philosophy and practices of the IB, inspires creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and the confidence to lead and excel in an ever-changing global community. The institution has a long tradition with the IB, being the second school in Brazil to implement the DP Programme.

Currently, EARJ is on the journey towards becoming an IB World Continuum School. In 2022, EARJ was officially recognized as a fully authorized International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) school. EARJ has developed a comprehensive two-year roadmap for the implementation of the Primary and Middle Years Programmes (PYP and MYP). During the Candidate Phase, faculty, students and parents were trained in Programme standards and practices in the form of professional development and specific workshops. The coming years EARJ will extend its belief in and commitment to the IB Programme Standards and Practices with the adoption of the MYP by 2024.

EARJ is a diverse international community of learners. Across our two campuses, our student body comprises 70% Brazilian and 30% International students, with our faculty demographic reflecting that same balance. The past years have seen tremendous growth in our enrolment, with further growth expected in the coming years. Our community is spread far and wide, via our Panther Alumni network, who keeps us connected to our past as we work towards an even brighter future.

Escola Americana do Rio de Janeiro gladly accepts applications for entry in all grade levels throughout the year. For any further information please visit our website at www.earj.com.br and follow us on social media (earj.official).
