Founded in 1890, Felix-Klein-Gymnasium has a long history of academic excellence in the areas of experimental sciences and language education. The public, co-educational day school is situated in the City Centre of Göttingen, the academic hub of Lower Saxony. On its two campuses with large prizewinning gardens, FKG offers educational programmes for Years 5-13, run in German and English (CLIL), that award graduates the German diploma Abitur.

Since 2008, FKG has been accredited as an IB World School, a collaboration that has helped the school consolidate its reputation as the leading provider of education in Göttingen. It is one of two public secondary schools in Germany to offer the IB Diploma Programme in English as an alternative to the Abitur. This flexibility allows students to tailor their studies to their individual skills and interests. The IBDP reflects the international-mindedness of the surroundings and was established with the help of dedicated parents and the financial support of local international companies and academic institutions, with whom FKG continues to maintain close co-operations. It forms an integral part of the school community and IB students have access to all school facilities and support systems. Together we strive to develop young adults who are prepared to be life-long learners in the world of the 21st century.

The IBDP at FKG is aligned with the Lower Saxony academic year schedule, with classes mostly starting in August. It follows the recognition conditions agreed on by the German Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs with the IB. The subject range is growing continuously and currently includes English and German A Language and Literature (Group 1), German B (Group 2), History and Geography (Group 3), Biology, Chemistry, and Physics (Group 4), Mathematics (Group 5) and Visual Arts (Group 6). All subjects are run at Standard and Higher Level (exception: German B, only HL). The IB team at FKG consists of experienced and highly-committed educators. All teaching staff have passed the rigorous German teaching exams and receive on-going IBDP teaching training.

Admission to the IBDP at FKG is based on academic performance and careful counselling before enrolment. FKG Diploma students consistently achieve results well above the world average and every year, a number of students are awarded bilingual diplomas. Among graduates, the renowned Georg-August-Universität Göttingen is a popular choice, but most go on to tertiary education institutions all over the world, including top universities.
