Boarding School of the Year - TES Schools Awards 2023

Felsted School was founded by the Lord Chancellor to King Edward VI, Richard Lord Riche, in 1564, and by combining this heritage with contemporary facilities and a modern approach to teaching and learning, Felsted opens up a world of opportunities for young people from countries all around the globe.

Very conveniently situated, just an hour from the cities of London and Cambridge, and 20 minutes from Stansted airport, Felsted's 90 acre countryside campus centres on a pretty English village and has its own extensive playing fields, chapel, theatre and music school.

International GCSEs and the International Baccalaureate are offered. Classes are small and each student is assigned an academic tutor who keeps track of progress and gives support when needed, on an individual basis.

Excellent academic results are achieved with a 100% IB pass rate in 2023, and an average score of 36.2.

Places at the world's top universities are regularly secured by Felsted IB students, including Oxford, Cambridge, Durham, Exeter, Warwick and UCL in the UK, as well as leading universities across Europe and colleges in the USA.

Very able students are extended and supported, and there is extensive assistance for students whose first language is not English.

Sports and the arts thrive, and students are given time and encouragement to pursue their passions. Many sports teams are coached by ex-professionals, concerts and drama productions are of an extremely high standard, and there is a huge range of clubs and activities for students to get involved in, including the adventurous Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme and the school's Model United Nations, at which students discuss world affairs.

Felsted is a global community. Students from more than 30 countries attend the school and there is an international atmosphere. By living and working together, students gain a real understanding of cultures and backgrounds that are different to their own. Felsted is a member of the Round Square network of the world’s top schools and this presents chances for students to work together on projects to improve the lives of people in disadvantaged nations.

Welcoming and homely, the school has nine boarding houses on campus, each with a Housemaster or Housemistress, a team of tutors and a matron. Life-long friendships are made. Social events, outings, sporting activities and creative projects keep boarders entertained at weekends.

Student wellbeing is the top priority at Felsted. A medical team is on-hand 24 hours a day and there is a fully equipped medical centre on campus, as well as a wellbeing centre, which is a focus for emotional support. All staff are trained in pastoral care and every student is well known and valued as an individual.
