Greengates School, founded in 1951, is the premier British international school in Mexico, with nearly 1,200 students. The school is a private, coeducational institution offering classes from Nursery through to Year 13. With over 70% of its students coming from abroad, Greengates is the most international school in the country and proudly holds the distinction of being the highest-achieving IB Diploma Programme institution in Mexico.

Situated in the heart of the Mexico City metropolitan area, just 20 minutes from the prestigious Polanco neighbourhood, Greengates is a day school with a spacious campus of over 20,000 square metres. Our purpose-built facilities are designed to foster creativity, collaboration, and academic excellence. These include two state-of-the-art libraries, nine science laboratories, computer and media centres, four art studios, a theatre, a 700-seat auditorium, a large multi-purpose gymnasium, basketball and volleyball courts, an indoor swimming pool, an organic learning garden, a new STEAM Makerspace, a cafeteria, an all-weather sports field, and two adventure playgrounds.

Most of our families come from the diplomatic and international business communities in Mexico City. With over 50 nationalities represented, we welcome students from a variety of educational systems and academic calendars throughout the year. While many of our students are locally based, new arrivals are a constant and valued presence within our community.

Our faculty consists of nearly 120 teachers from diverse backgrounds. Alongside our many British educators, we are proud to have highly qualified and experienced teachers from countries such as Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Ireland, Mexico, South Africa, and the United States. This diversity enriches the classroom experience, combining a wide range of skills and modern teaching approaches that extend well beyond the academic syllabus.

As a British international school, the language of instruction at Greengates is English. However, Spanish is also incorporated into the curriculum from Year 2 onwards, with students grouped according to their level of proficiency. From Year 7, French is introduced. This multilingual approach enables students to develop strong communication skills while following a curriculum tailored to their abilities and interests. Additional support in English and Spanish is provided whenever necessary. Furthermore, Korean and Japanese are available as options within the IB Diploma Programme.

In Years 12 and 13, all students at Greengates undertake the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), with class groups ranging from 45 to 60 students. Greengates is unique in Mexico in the way every student completes the IBDP, rather than following an alternative pathway. We uphold the highest academic standards and prepare our learners thoroughly for the demands of the programme.

The Secondary School has been authorised to offer the Diploma Programme since 1986, consistently achieving pass rates of 98–100% over the past five years, with overall point scores well above the global average. This commitment to academic excellence ensures that Greengates continues to maintain the highest IBDP average in Mexico.
