The High School Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University (known as JDFZ in Chinese Abbreviation) is one of Shanghai's most renowned and competitive public high schools, situated in Shanghai's northern suburbs. In 2014 the school marked its 60th anniversary.
The school established its International Curriculum Center in 2011 and gained IB authorization for the Diploma Programme in 2012, saw its first cohort of 65 DP graduates in 2014. In the year of 2019, there are 315 students in total, ranging in age from 15-19. The students come from in and around Shanghai, with some from provinces across China. The vast majority of students are boarders. Students undergo a foundation year of IGCSE before moving into the DP in years two and three. The graduates from IBDP have earned outstanding offers of admission from top universities, largely in the United States, Canada, and the UK.
The centre has had excellent results in its short history as an IB World School, with each year graduates finishing above IB world averages in nearly every subject offered. This success comes from both the hard work of the students, and the passion of the teaching staff. Staff are dedicated, enthusiastic, and professional, hailing from both China and abroad. English is the medium of instruction in all lessons other than Group 1.
One of the core elements of the school’s ethos is the balance between love for one's mother country and the growth of an international outlook. This thread is woven into all subjects. The IB Learner Profile is also very much a living part of the school, with regular discussions, events, and activities making it relevant. HSASJTU also strives to utilize IB concepts to promote the educational reform of the national curriculum.
