Hout Bay International School is more than a school – it is a community of diverse individuals and families, a centre for academic excellence, for some a home away from home and yet more importantly a family for all those that are part of it. Few schools can boast that they belong to two international organisations spanning across almost every continent of the globe. The first being International Education Systems (IES), a family of international schools committed to quality educational experiences for all who attend and, second, the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO), renowned for its high quality and rigorous academic programme.
Our School is as diverse as the location in which it finds itself, our commitment to highlighting social injustice, the celebration of differences and the fostering of international mindedness goes beyond the classroom. Students are encouraged to 'think outside the box', 'have a voice' and engage on pertinent topics daily. From the Primary Years Programme (PYP) through to the Diploma Programme (DP), students, staff and parents are part of a learning community that seeks to encourage awareness of the wider world. They have a sense of their own role as global citizens, who respect and value diversity, who have an understanding of how the world works and who take responsibility for their actions. In order to consolidate our IB World School Status, we have been approved as an MYP Candidate School.
We are proudly South African, embodying an International mind-set, where the spirit of 'ubuntu' - the idea that humanity is bound together and expressed by caring for each other - can be seen and felt. The teachers genuinely care for their students and love practicing their craft. The students genuinely love learning and are encouraged to become life-long learners.
Our campus is cradled between beautiful mountains on three sides with the sparkling Atlantic Ocean on the other; and houses the following facilities: 27 Classrooms (each equipped with Wi-Fi and Data Projectors), 2 Fully Equipped Science Laboratories, Black Box Drama Room, 2 Art Studios, School Library, Music Room, Creative Arts Outdoor Courtyard, Courtyards equipped with climbing walls and Sand pit (Early Years), Stop and Drop / Pick Up Facilities, 2 Netball / Tennis Courts, 3 Cricket Nets, 3 Multi-purpose playing fields, Bio-Diversity Sanctuary, Sustainable Vegetable Garden and Uniform Shop. Phase 3 which will house the Early Years & Junior Primary, a canteen and courtyard is currently under construction and will be completed mid-2018.
Our students enjoy an extensive Extra-Curricular programme exposing them to various sports, creative arts, dance, martial arts, community service activities, all contributing to their 'Whole Child' educational experience and embracing the concept of CAS.
All students are required to sit a formal entrance assessment to assess where they fit within our programme. We accept students' year round, in all grade levels except the Diploma Programme which requires a two year commitment from the student. Application forms and previous school reports are required for entry.
