Institut Montana was founded in 1926 by Dr Max Husmann. His humanist vision continues to guide us to help every student find their own individual path and thrive.

Learning, Personal Growth, Community

Our combination of small class sizes and individual support fosters a family atmosphere that builds up enthusiasm for learning and motivation to excel. Our international school community is highly diverse yet also promotes typically Swiss values, such as a strong work ethic, respect for each other and dedication to achieving excellence. We are a fully accredited Swiss international boarding school. Since 1987 we have been an official IB World School.

A central location in a natural setting

Our 60 acres campus, at an altitude of 950m, offers seclusion and contact with nature while benefitting from its proximity to Switzerland’s major cities Zug and Zurich and the rich opportunities they offer.

The Pursuit of Excellence

Students have the opportunity to choose the academic path that suits their interests and aspirations. We offer (grades 1-12) the best of Swiss and international educational programmes, carefully structured to ensure the highest standards of teaching and learning: Swiss Bilingual Elementary, Secondary and Senior High School, as well as International Cambridge CLSP, IGCSE, IB Diploma programmes and High School Diploma.

Home at School

Life at Montana is unique: we breathe mountain air, drink our own spring water and eat fresh food that accommodates all dietary restrictions. Our daily routine promotes self-responsibility while maintaining a well-balanced, active lifestyle.

Summer Sessions

Our summer school is about combining learning with fun. Intensive classes in English and German dramatically improve the language level, while exciting afternoon workshops bring learning to life. Students from all over the world join us every year for a summer adventure filled with outdoor activities on the beautiful Zugerberg.

Empowering Students

We want our students to grow into confident adults who will make the most of their life. Our extracurricular activities encourage them to pursue their passion, whether that is athletic, intellectual or cultural. Our students participate in athletic competitions, Model United Nations conferences, entrepreneurship programmes, theatre productions and more. Our students are global citizens supporting charity projects within Switzerland and around the world.

Montana for Life

We are a vibrant community with strong connections that continue across years as across continents. From scientists to politicians and film directors, our alumni are a diverse group of passionate people who share the same background and values.
