About our school

With over 40 nationalities, International School Altdorf is an inclusive and diverse community located in the central part of Switzerland.

The school builds on the tradition of Swiss boarding education, with a special focus on academic excellence to offer a challenging course of studies.

Our school hosts over 40 nationalities on campus and our experienced and accomplished international teachers help students earn globally recognized qualifications to attend excellent universities at home or abroad.

Academics at international School Altdorf

At International School Altdorf, students enjoy flexibility when choosing their courses: we offer a very large number of subjects in all programs and grades to ensure that students can follow their academic interest and talent. Our unique combination of small class sizes, tailored academic programs and individual support creates a family atmosphere and builds up the enthusiasm of students for personalized learning and academic excellence.

The school offers the IB Diploma Programme and the IB Career-related Programme, each lasting for two years, in grades 11 and 12. In lower grades, we offer different authorized pathways for learners adapted to a wide range of abilities and interests, including those whose first language is not English. We encourage students to engage with a variety of topics, focusing on interdisciplinarity, research and inquiry. We are also an accredited partner for TOEFL and IELTS testing and of the United Nations World Tourism Organization Academy in Switzerland.

University Acceptance

The IB curricula, the academic focus and the support of our University Counsellor at International School Altdorf offer the best preparation for students to continue their academic journey into the university of their choice.

The last four cohorts of graduating students have all mostly obtained bilingual diplomas with scores well above the world average. Over 50% of our students have received offers from the top 50 universities in the world's university ranking, and several alumni have been accepted to the top universities in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia and Switzerland.

Campus life

At International School Altdorf, we encourage students to actively participate and challenge themselves outside of the classroom! Students are thus instilled with a sense of responsibility, even in extracurricular activities, in sports and in community projects.

Students have access to a range of extracurricular activities on campus, from facilities for many sports to even a student-run animal shelter. Our school is located close to Swiss Alps and Lake Lucerne, thus outdoor activities are part of the weekend life, from hiking to skiing, from golf to swimming and rowing. Students are also supported to create their own clubs and the range evolves from year to year.
