International School of Western Australia (ISWA) is fast becoming a school of choice for both international and local Perth families looking for progressive education in a co-ed, non-denominational, small school environment.

ISWA is a unique school for families seeking a holistic, bespoke education for their children. It is a small, independent, co-educational and non-denominational school where local students mix with international students, in an inclusive and open-minded environment. Topics are studied with both a local and global perspective.

ISWA offers the outstanding International Baccalaureate program in all year levels, from K-12. The IB approach to learning is: inquiry based; concept based and trans-disciplinary. The emphasis is on curiosity, creativity, critical thinking and community service, and on creating well-rounded, independent, engaged individuals. There is also a significant Reggio Emilia emphasis to learning in the Early Years.

Amongst the strengths of ISWA's academic approach is their ability to nurture students from a wide variety of backgrounds, with a wide range of learning styles, in a safe, encouraging learning environment. ISWA takes pride in their academic rigor and strong academic results, which are achieved in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

As part of their trans-disciplinary approach, a key focus is developing students as well-rounded individuals. There is an emphasis on language learning, with students spending the same amount of time studying a second language as they do their other core subjects. With so much extra time spend on immersion-based language learning, ISWA students graduate with real second language skills, a valuable asset they will use throughout their lives.

As IB educators, ISWA understands that examinations do not always accurately measure the true abilities of children. ISWA's progressive system of assessment helps all children maximize their potential. This belief is echoed in ISWA's scholarships program. While strong academic performance is imperative for scholarship recipients, ISWA scholarship students must also be well-rounded. That is why ISWA never asks prospective scholarship recipients to sit an exam, which only ever measure a student's performance in a specific circumstance on one day. Instead, ISWA scholarships are evaluated on ePortfolios, past academic transcripts, examples of leadership and community service, and face-to-face interviews. This helps ISWA award scholarships to students who will thrive in this unique school.

ISWA offers further education academic pathways that are unique in Perth. ISWA is the only school in Western Australia that enables senior school students the choice between studying for the International Baccalaureate Diploma, or the U.S. College Board Advance Placement courses, whilst also delivering the requirements of the West Australian curriculum. Successful completion of these rigorous academic pathways opens up the opportunity of university study at prestigious and specialist higher education institutions across the globe.

A popular addition to ISWA's program in recent years is their French Hybrid program, the only one of its kind in Western Australia. Designed to serve the needs of Perth's growing French community, this program enables French native speakers to blend French Curriculum Mathematics, French Language, History and Geography from the French Distance Education Program (CNED), delivered in-person by teachers from the French Ministry of National Education in their mother tongue, and then integrate into regular ISWA classes for the rest of their subjects, which are studied in English.

The ISWA school community plays a particularly important role in the lives of students and their families. When families arrive in Perth from overseas they often don't know anybody. An inclusive, welcoming school community and active Parent Association have numerous strategies in place to ensure newcomers are welcomed and settle quickly and happily in to their new Perth lifestyle. This welcome is not exclusive to ISWA's international families. Due to the egalitarian, open-minded and progressive nature of the school community, local students who did not fit into their mainstream or elite Perth school structure find their place at ISWA: often for the first time ever in a school environment, they find they belong.

The family atmosphere of our campus is enhanced by our co-educational K-12 campus, where vertical age interactions are facilitated and encouraged. The connectedness between primary, middle and secondary school, between staff and pupils, school and parents is at the core of ISWA's holistic approach to education.

Due to these unique benefits, ISWA has a growing community of local West Australian families at the school. These families enjoy the world-class education that ISWA offers. Local families are also able to take advantage of significant reductions in school fees. ISWA is a wonderful community made up of caring, highly qualified and experienced teachers, supportive parents and very happy students!
