Marymount International School Rome is a private, Catholic, co-educational day school. The oldest international school in Italy, we are located on a 40-acre campus of protected parkland just 20 minutes north of the city center. An English-language Pre-K through 12th Grade, standards based international curriculum is complemented by a wide range of extracurricular activities both on and off-campus, including visits to Rome's famous attractions and national and international traveling. Marymount graduates obtain an accredited American High School Diploma and in any given year as many as 100% of students work towards either the full IB Diploma or individual IB course certificates.
Marymount has been an IB World School for over 30 years obtaining accreditation to offer the IB Diploma Programme (DP) in 1985. Over the years the DP has become an integral component of Marymount’s academic program. School-wide curriculum alignment builds towards the High School where over 30 IB subjects are offered.
Marymount consistently obtains well above world average results. In 2017, for example, 100% of the School’s DP candidates obtained the Diploma and the School’s mean overall points total was 34.12; therefore 21% higher than the worldwide pass rate for each examination session. Around 60% of our Diploma candidates scored in the top 20th percentile in the world. Marymount is a culturally and responsibly inclusive School, with a liberal admissions policy, and is therefore particularly proud of its students' results.
The School's IB students go on to study in many of the world’s top universities and colleges, including Yale, Johns Hopkins, UC Berkeley, NYU, Boston College and McGill in North America and Imperial College London, King's College London, the London School of Economics, and University College London. The Marymount Learner Profile and the School's Mission and Vision provide a road map for Marymount's standards-based education that embraces internationalism and intercultural understanding. Generally over 50% of the School's DP candidates obtain a Bilingual Diploma and all MMI students take part in local or international service-learning projects.
Classroom activities focus on skills development, conceptual understanding and authentic learning. A rigorous academic program is supplemented by a wide variety of after school activities including Varsity athletics, S.T.E.A.M. classes in our FabLab building which foster innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship, classes in journalism, theatre, choir/band, Model United Nations, and photography. The School also has an ever-growing commitment to technology. All Marymount secondary students work with personal Apple computers and the School is equipped with multiple computer labs, science labs, art studios and libraries.
Marymount welcomes students from over 60 different nationalities and of all faiths to participate in its vibrant community life, providing an inclusive environment in which each student is valued and nurtured to become tomorrow's leaders.
