Mission

Merici College empowers women to love life, have hope, be faithful and build futures more wondrous than they dare to dream.

Vision

Merici College endeavours to be a vibrant, faithful learning community that fosters excellence, and takes positive action to build a shared global future.

Merici College is a Year 7-12 Catholic girls' college, situated in Braddon in the heart of Canberra. We are very proud to be the oldest established Catholic girls' secondary school in Canberra.

Merici is a vibrant community committed to preparing confident and competent young women well equipped to contribute to the world beyond high school. We create innovative learning environments that meet the needs of individual students and inspire them to strive for the highest levels of personal achievement. We challenge our students to take risks within and beyond the classroom to achieve individual academic excellence.

Merici College is a welcoming community, where authentic relationships are nurtured, and dignity and integrity are affirmed. We seek to foster a life-long love of learning within our students, where each young woman is given the opportunity to grow spiritually and intellectually to make a positive contribution to society. Families also enrich Merici from diverse Christian and other faith traditions.

Academic

We teach the Australian Curriculum in the Junior Years (Years 7-10) delivered through the Middle Years Framework. At the senior level, students choose to study either the IB DP, or our local curriculum. We offer a range of opportunities for gifted and talented students, including differentiated teaching, acceleration, enrichment, and support for students with specific learning needs.

Cocurricular

We believe it's vital that every Merici Girl gets the chance to explore their passion, be creative and try something new. Our co-curricular and enrichment opportunities have something to suit everyone, from our Sustainability at Merici (SAM) group to Art Club and a vast array of sporting teams, including a robust set of Netball teams.

Vertical House System

One of the strengths of our college is the strong House System and excellent pastoral care provided. The seven Pastoral Care (PC) Groups in each House are vertically streamed, and students remain in the same PC group throughout their six years at Merici. This encourages positive relationships and a sense of belonging and continuity for students and their families. It also provides leadership opportunities for older students who support and mentor the younger ones.
