Oakham is well known and loved for being a friendly, unpretentious and highly successful school. Our uniquely structured student population - with 50:50 girls and boys, and 50% boarders and 50% day pupils - creates a genuinely inclusive and caring school community.
We have been offering the IB Diploma for more than 20 years.
Academic
Our educational ethos reflects the IB's vision to nurture intellectually ambitious thinkers, giving our pupils the ability to learn effectively and independently at school and beyond. Our IB Diploma results far exceed the global average and our teachers are leading practitioners.
Having received accreditation as an IB MYP World School in summer 2021, we are equipping our pupils aged 11-14 with the knowledge, aptitudes and skills to thrive in the world of 2030 and beyond.
Pastoral Care
Our dedicated Houses for boarders and day pupils means that we can offer all pupils the benefits of our outstanding boarding provision in ways that suit modern family life. Led by a Housemaster or Housemistress, and supported by a team of Tutors, Prefects and a Matron, each of our 16 Houses provides our pupils with the care and support they need to develop intellectually, physically, emotionally and spiritually.
Our location
Pupils benefit from the School's location close to Rutland Water, in the heart of safe, rural England. Our beautifully green campus is just a few minutes' walk from Oakham's historic town centre and train station and Oakham’s excellent road and rail links mean that London, Birmingham and Cambridge are all within easy reach. There is a direct train to Stansted Airport.
Co-curricular
We offer a spectacularly wide range of co-curricular opportunities. Hundreds of students take part in the Arts - there are five major drama productions every year, we teach over 400 individual music lessons each week, and our award-winning Art & Design Department is a hive of creative activity. Oakham has a national reputation for Sport, offering 30 different sports to students of all levels - from enthusiasts to elite athletes. Activities are also an integral part of life beyond the classroom, with students able to choose from over 125 activities to take part in each week, to discover and develop their interests and talents, and provide service to others. In addition to Duke of Edinburgh, CCF, and Voluntary Action, options range from dance to robotics, e-textiles to sailing.
