Pan-American School: Nurturing Curiosity, Building Tomorrow

Pan-American School, founded in 1971, is Costa Rica's first institution to offer the full International Baccalaureate (IB) Continuum – PYP, MYP, and DP. We provide a transformative education that blends academic excellence, global citizenship, and purpose-driven learning, preparing students aged 6 months to 18 years to thrive in a dynamic, interconnected world.

Our graduates earn three prestigious diplomas: the IB Diploma, a U.S. High School Diploma, and the Costa Rican Bachillerato, giving them credentials recognized and respected worldwide. Learning takes place on a 35,000 m2 campus designed to nurture curiosity, well-being, and a connection with nature, located just west of San José.

Pan-American School's commitment to excellence is reinforced by accreditations from the International Baccalaureate (IB) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), and membership in the Association for the Advancement of International Education (AAIE). In November 2024, the school received the RAIL (Responsible use of AI in Learning) Endorsement from the Middle States Association, recognizing its leadership in integrating AI and emerging technologies to prepare agile, future-ready learners.

Beyond academics, the school fosters holistic development through robust programs in arts, sports, service, and well-being. Students participate in AASCA (Association of American Schools of Central America) tournaments, achieving championship titles in basketball, volleyball, and soccer, as well as regional success in tennis, track, and swimming.

Our community of nearly 40 nationalities creates a vibrant intercultural environment guided by the IB values of open-mindedness, respect, and empathy. Every student is known, valued, and supported through personalized learning that emphasizes critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and adaptability.

Pan-American School is also committed to service learning and sustainability, ensuring that all students and staff engage in meaningful community projects each year. From early learning to the IB Diploma Programme, we cultivate principled, capable, and compassionate individuals who lead with integrity and purpose.

More than a school, Pan-American School is a community that inspires curiosity, cultivates excellence, and empowers learners to contribute meaningfully to their world – today and tomorrow.
