Since its foundation in 1901, Ravenswood has embraced a strong tradition of academic excellence with an emphasis on holistic education. As a proudly non-selective school from Prep to Year 12, we are committed to being at the forefront of education and wellbeing for girls, aiming to ignite the potential of every student - inspiring her passion and purpose to lead her most meaningful life.
Ravenswood is a Uniting Church school, governed by a Christian ethos and our guiding principles of Excellence, Respect, Courage, Optimism and Compassion. Our motto is semper ad meliora – Always towards better things.
Ravenswood has offered the International Baccalaureate (IB) since 2005 and is the only School on the Upper North Shore in Sydney to offer Senior School students the choice of the HSC or the IB Diploma Programme.
Ravenswood IBDP students consistently achieve perfect scores of 45. In 2022 alone, four Ravenswood senior students achieved perfect scores of 45 in the IBDP with three of these equating to the highest possible ATAR of 99.95. In 2023, one student achieved a perfect IB score of 45, equating to the highest possible ATAR of 99.95. In 2025, one student achieved a perfect IB score of 45 (and the highest possible ATAR of 99.95), placing her in the top 1% of IB students in the world, and three IB Diploma students achieved an IB score of 44 (equating to ATARs of 99.60 to 99.75).
Ravenswood also launched its innovative pre-kindergarten offering in 2021, featuring a curriculum infused with the School's own award-winning Positive Education and wellbeing approach, combined with the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), and the Reggio Emilia philosophy. The result is a Prep learning experience that is student-centred and inquiry-based, encouraging student wonder, empathy, creativity, independence and collaboration.
As one of the first Visible Wellbeing schools in NSW, Ravenswood has embedded evidence-based positive education strategies into the curriculum, recognising that learning and well-being are inextricably linked.
In 2025, Ravenswood was honoured in The Educator magazine's inaugural 5-Star Best School list for 2025 as well as being included on its 5-Star Innovative School list for the seventh time in eight years (2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025) for its work in the areas of Positive Education and STEM. Ravenswood also received three Excellence Awards at the 2025 Australian Education Awards, for Best Student Wellbeing program (for the fourth time in five years), Boarding School of the Year (for the third time in four years) and Best Professional Learning Program.
The innovative Ravenswood Positive Education and wellbeing approach is multi-layered and provides a framework of wellbeing support, guidance and advice for all students. This runs from the Principal through to class teachers, Mentors, Year Coordinators, the School Chaplain, Psychologists, Health Care unit, the Learning Enrichment team, Head of Positive Education, Head of Senior School, and Penny – the therapy dog. It comprises of bespoke curriculum lessons to teach the theory of Positive Education and wellbeing strategies, mentor group sessions, a comprehensive network of student support and wellbeing initiatives, and innovative wellbeing spaces on campus, as well as in the Residential College, Ravenswood's boutique boarding house.
Ravenswood girls have access to more than 100 diverse co-curricular choices designed to extend their development beyond the classroom including gymnastics, snow sports, public speaking and debating, dance and music to name a few. Ravenswood girls also enjoy co-educational opportunities in partnership with our brother school, Knox Grammar School, including army cadets, careers, musical performances and service activities.
Ravenswood girls enjoy the benefits of award-winning world-class facilities including the Mabel Fidler Building, state-of-the-art Learning Resources Centre and Petre Innovation Centre. The Centenary Centre features a performing arts auditorium, music centre, open exhibition space and dance studios. The indoor sports and recreation centre includes a strength and conditioning facility and a 25-metre heated indoor swimming pool and diving apparatus. Ravenswood's beautiful Senior Learning Centre, nominated at the World Architecture Awards for its design and use of colour to create an innovative educational and wellbeing learning space, is a forward-thinking 21st-century learning space designed to provide both flexible academic spaces and relaxation areas for our Years 11–12 students. In 2023, the trailblazing Wellbeing Path, an 800-metre continuous loop within the campus perimeter, was opened. It provides an opportunity for students and staff to enjoy the benefits of exercising in nature which supports physical and mental health. Under construction, The Anne Johnstone Wellbeing and Sports Centre will feature world-class sporting and wellbeing spaces.
