Ritsumeikan Uji Junior and Senior High School is located in scenic Uji City, within a short distance of Kyoto and Osaka. The school is mixed boarding and day, coeducational, and offers an integrated six-year curriculum. Ritsumeikan Uji High School was established in 1994 as an affiliated school of Ritsumeikan University, one of the largest and most prestigious universities in Japan. The school was rebuilt in its current location in 2002 and established a junior high school in 2003.

The International Preparatory Course is a new initiative designed for Ritsumeikan Uji junior high school students, scheduled to begin in April 2021. The course will provide Japanese returnees and foreign students with an authentic Japanese educational environment, while engaging in a rigorous core of academic subjects taught in English by experienced IB educators. IPC homerooms will be managed by Japanese and English speaking IB staff, where students will enjoy learning a variety of Japanese cultural traditions as well as core IB curricular elements such as the Approaches to Learning. On completion, students will have an intimate understanding of life in Japan, as well as the knowledge, skills and maturity to find success in the IB Diploma Programme.

Since our authorisation in 2009, Ritsumeikan Uji's IB programme has evolved to provide all the academic rigour and opportunities for personal growth of the English IBDP in an approach that capitalises upon the talents and perspectives of our multicultural student body. Indeed, our course structure guarantees students the chance to graduate with a bilingual IB Diploma, as well as the Japanese high school certificate. Our programme prides itself on small class sizes, individualised care, and a supportive learning community, guided by a team of highly experienced staff. With their cultural fluency and world class educational backgrounds, our graduates go on to study at top Japanese instututions, such as Tokyo and Kyoto universities, as well as prestigious schools overseas including Duke University, Imperial College London, and the National University of Singapore, amongst many others.

IBDP students at Ritsumeikan Uji have access to first-class resources, including four fully equipped science labs, a multilingual library, and an observatory. In April 2022, IB students will begin the academic year in our new dedicated IB building, designed to integrate harmoniously with neighouring parkland and provide students with a range of collaborative and private study spaces to get the most out of their IB experience.

Our community calendar is full of whole-school and IB-specific events, as well as the Global Challenge Program (GCP), which offers IBDP students opportunities to travel overseas, make new friends, and broaden their horizons.

High school students are welcome to stay in our dormitory throughout their three years of study. The dormitory provides meals, wireless internet, is a short bus ride to campus and an easy walk to the city centre.
