About

Ritsumeikan Uji Junior and Senior High School is located in scenic Uji City, within a short distance of Kyoto and Osaka. The school is mixed boarding and day, coeducational, and offers an integrated six-year curriculum. Ritsumeikan Uji High School was established in 1994 as an affiliated school of Ritsumeikan University, one of the largest and most prestigious universities in Japan. The school was rebuilt in its current location in 2002 and established a junior high school in 2003.

IP

Beginning in April 2021, the IP Course has been designed to provide Japanese returnees and foreign students with an authentic Japanese educational environment, while engaging in a rigorous core of academic subjects taught in English by experienced International Baccalaureate teachers. IPC homerooms are managed by Japanese and English speaking IB staff, where students can enjoy learning a variety of Japanese cultural traditions as well as core IB curricular elements such as the Approaches to Learning. On completion, students will have an intimate understanding of life in Japan, as well as the knowledge, skills and maturity to find success in our senior high school IB Course.

IB

Since our authorisation in 2009, Ritsumeikan Uji’s English language IB Course has endeavoured to provide the highest levels of guidance and support for the academic and personal growth of our multicultural student body. Indeed, our course structure guarantees students the chance to graduate with a bilingual International Baccalaureate diploma, as well as the Japanese high school certificate. Our IB Course prides itself on small class sizes, individualised care, and an inclusive learning community, guided by a team of experienced and committed staff. With their cultural fluency and world class educational backgrounds, our graduates go on to study at top Japanese institutions as well as prestigious schools overseas including Duke University, Imperial College London, the National University of Singapore and many others.

C Building

The Ritsumeikan Uji IB Course recently moved into the new, specially designed C Building on the Uji campus. The new building houses two fully equipped laboratories, an art studio, collaborative and private study spaces, and a large common lounge area. C Building integrates harmoniously with neighbouring parkland to provide students with a peaceful environment for reflection and focused study.

Events

Our community calendar is full of events, including the annual culture and sports days, as well as supervised trips to destinations across Japan and internationally. These shared experiences strengthen our community and enable IBDP students to broaden their world view.

Boarding

High school students are welcome to stay in our dormitory throughout their three years of study. The dormitory provides meals, wireless internet, is a short bus ride to campus and an easy walk to the city centre.
