St Edward's

The number of pupils choosing to study the IB at St Edward's has increased significantly in recent years. We have an excellent balance in the Sixth Form between the IB and A Level, with equal numbers of candidates for both. The School sits on a vast 100-acre estate complete with landmark new university-style academic facilities, recently-completed Music School, professional-level North Wall Arts Centre and riverside boat house - yet it is only a five minute bus ride away from one of the most famous university cities in the world.

Oxford

Being so close to all the amenities and attractions of Oxford is of enormous benefit to our pupils. The city's rich architectural history and the University's global reputation for scholarship are an intoxicating combination. Venues such as the Ashmolean Museum, the Oxford Playhouse, The Museum of Modern Art and Blenheim Palace offer important learning opportunities - but also welcome distraction from the busy school day. In Oxford, pupils can attend talks and lectures by notable speakers at countless venues across the city.

Sixth Form Achievements

In 2022, 93% of Higher Level grades were 7-5 and 61% were 7/6; the average points score was 35. Each year, a number of pupils are awarded places at Oxford and Cambridge whilst the majority go on to top universities in Britain and overseas. Pupils are increasingly interested in studying outside the UK and we have considerable experience in this area. In recent years, pupils have gone on to study at US and Canadian universities including Harvard, Dartmouth, UCLA, McGill, Northeastern and NYU. Pupils have also been successful in their applications to universities in Hong Kong, Japan, Ireland and elsewhere in Europe.

Pastoral Care

The pastoral care system at St Edward's has long been regarded as one of the school's great strengths. Underpinned by a highly effective network of relationships, the system offers distinct but interwoven levels of care.

The School and the Admissions Process

St Edward's has around 800 pupils, 84% of whom board. The Sixth Form has around 330 pupils, some 25% of whom are from overseas (16% across the rest of the School), and the boy/girl split is 53%/47%. Entry to the Sixth Form is competitive with around 4 applicants per place. Academic and Music Scholarships are available along with further Awards in Sport, Art, Dance and Drama.
