St Edward's

The number of pupils choosing to study the IB at St Edward’s has increased significantly in recent years. We now have an excellent balance in the Sixth Form between the IB and A Level, with candidates for both qualifications achieving equal levels of success. IB pupils at St Edward's are fully integrated into a diverse academic community enabling them to experience all aspects of life in a leading co-ed boarding school in a vibrant university city. The School sits on a vast 100-acre estate, complete with riverside boat house, pitches, courts, sports complex and arts centre - yet is only a 2-minute walk from a bustling urban village.

Oxford

Studying in one of the most beautiful and famous cities in the world is of enormous benefit to St Edward's pupils. The city's rich architectural history and the University's global reputation for scholarship are an intoxicating combination. Venues such as the Ashmolean Museum, the Oxford Playhouse, The Museum of Modern Art and Blenheim Palace offer important learning opportunities - but also welcome distraction from the busy school day. A bus ride of just a few minutes takes pupils into the centre of Oxford where they can attend talks and lectures by notable speakers at countless venues across the city. Pupils enjoy being part of this international cultural and intellectual community.

Sixth Form Achievements

Over the past five years, IB candidates achieved an average points score in excess of 36, with more than a third each year achieving 40 points or more. The average grade in IB Higher Level subjects over the same period was 6 out of a maximum of 7. Each year, a number of pupils are awarded places at Oxford and Cambridge whilst the majority (around 85%) go on to top universities in Britain and overseas. Pupils are increasingly interested in studying outside the UK and we have considerable experience in this area. In recent years, pupils have gone on to study at US and Canadian universities including Dartmouth, UCLA, McGill, Northeastern and NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. Pupils have also been successful in their applications to universities in Hong Kong, Japan, Ireland and elsewhere in Europe.

Pastoral Care

The pastoral care system at St Edward's has long been regarded as one of the school's great strengths. Underpinned by a highly effective network of relationships, the system offers distinct but interwoven levels of care. An active Overseas Pupils' Committee organises a lively calendar of events to celebrate our rich cultural diversity and to ensure that our international pupils find their niche and feel at home.

The School and the Admissions Process

St Edward's has around 700 pupils, 85% of whom board. The boy/girl split is 60%/40%. The Sixth Form has around 285 pupils, some 25% of whom are from overseas (15% overseas across the school). Entry to the Sixth Form is competitive with around 4 applicants per place. Academic Scholarships are available at 13+ and 16+ entry, as well as further awards in Music, Sport, Art, Drama and Dance.
