Founded in 1997, The British International School Bratislava (BISB) is the largest and most diverse international school in Slovakia, with over 800 students from more than 40 nationalities. As part of the Nord Anglia Education family, BISB delivers a premium international education.
The school offers a stimulating and challenging curriculum that provides a broad, balanced foundation for future success. From Kindergarten to Year 9 (Grade 8), BISB follows the National Curriculum for England. In Years 10 and 11 (Grades 9 and 10), students study the Cambridge IGCSE, achieving results comparable to top schools globally.
In Years 12 and 13 (Grades 11 and 12), BISB offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), a respected qualification that promotes independent thinking and lifelong learning. The IBDP centres on the IB Learner Profile and key learning approaches such as inquiry, reflection, and collaboration. Students take six subjects, complete a 4,000-word Extended Essay, and study Theory of Knowledge, earning up to three bonus points. The maximum score is 45, with subjects graded from 1 (poor) to 7 (excellent). Students also participate in CAS – Creativity, Activity, Service – encouraging community engagement and personal growth.
For the 2024/25 academic year, BISB students celebrated another year of outstanding IB results, with an average score of 36.3 – well above the global average of 30.6. Over 22% of students achieved scores above 40, and the school recorded an excellent pass rate of 98%. Each year, our graduates secure places at top universities around the globe.
