The British School of Milan is the leading IB school in Italy and has been identified as one of the top 10 British schools overseas. Founded in 1969, the school is a single campus day school with a mission to develop confident and adaptable life-long learners. It is the only school in Milan rated 'Excellent' by UK Government Inspectors (ISI) as recently as March 2025.
The BSM is an independent not-for-profit school which provides world-class education to around 790 students from over 50 different nationalities. The school choses to maintain a family feel with approximately 60 children per year group. The school values individuality and cultural diversity and offers a rich international experience while following the UK National Curriculum from age 3. At Key Stage 4 students take public examinations in the form of IGCSEs.
In Years 12 and 13 (the Sixth Form), students pursue the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma which is chosen because it is considered the gold standard of world education and the best preparation for universities and the globally competitive world of work. Super Curricular activities, considered essential for the world's leading universities, are extremely well-established in the Sixth Form and the senior school.
IB results are outstanding, and students progress to the best universities in the world. Aided by detailed and tailored individual support during the university application process, students habitually gain places at Oxford, Cambridge, Yale, Columbia, LSE, Imperial, University College London and Università Bocconi and many other leading universities.
The school nourishes a strong tradition of community service in the Sixth Form through the Community Action Service element of the IB and with its involvement in the International Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme. Such is the academic attainment of students in the Sixth Form that Honorary Scholarships are awarded to reflect the ambitious academic atmosphere in the school. This is accompanied by regular guest speakers who enrich the learning environment.
The high quality teaching and high-quality pastoral care lie at the heart of BSM. The style of teaching is adaptive, progressive and pacy. BSM staff are almost all British-trained and mother-tongue teachers. Languages are taught almost exclusively by native language speakers including Italian, French and Spanish.
The school is particularly proud of its exceptional music, art and drama departments and acts as the Italian centre for the UK-based ABRSM, the exam board of the Royal Schools of Music. It is also a SAT centre.
BSM enjoys a central location in Milan close to 2 metro stations and on several bus routes. Linate airport and the popular Milano 2 residences are just minutes from the school.
BSM is accredited by COBIS, AoBSO and HMC. Admission applications are accepted throughout the year.
