The Vientiane International School (VIS) is an independent, non-profit, authorized IB World School offering the PYP, MYP and DP Programmes from Early Years through Grade 12. The school received initial accreditation in 2001 from both the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Council of International Schools (CIS) and was reaccredited in 2018. VIS is the only IB World School in Laos and the only school to be accredited by two international organizations. Our mission is to challenge, inspire and empower students to develop their unique potential and to be responsible citizens in an ever-changing world.

The campus covers four hectares including two swimming pools, two soccer pitches, two basketball courts, ample playground spaces and a library that provides a unique environment for collaboration with extensive access to hardcopy and electronic books, magazines, newspapers and research material.

The VIS community is diverse. Students represent over 40 different nationalities and our faculty hail from over 25 different nations. A large percentage of our parents are professionals working with embassies, NGO's and international companies. With a transient rate of about 20% per year, our curriculum ensures a successful transition for students to an English-medium school in their home country or their next international school. VIS graduates are likewise well prepared for acceptance into a colleges or universities around the world.

At VIS we value the arts, science, math and language acquisition and offer students unique opportunities for expression and rigorous academic learning. Our Mother Tongue Programme supports the development and maintenance of 14 different mother tongue languages. In 2018 half of our IB Diploma graduates were awarded a bilingual diploma - well above the world average.

The school has a strong ethos of service learning and community service. We strive to develop empathy, cultural understanding and global awareness in students through meaningful interactions with the Lao community, including our sister school.

VIS promotes a healthy lifestyle through an extensive co-curricular programme where students can engage in a wide variety of activities after school and on weekends. The school is a member of the regional association, Mekong River International Schools Association (MRISA), which enables our students and those from neighbouring countries to regularly take part in sporting and cultural exchanges.
