VIS Definition of Learning

We learn when we build and apply new understandings and skills in a variety of contexts

VIS is an independent, non-profit school offering an international-standard curriculum. We are the only school in Laos accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Council of International Schools (CIS). We are also the only IB World School in the country, delivering IB Continuum Program (PYP, MYP, DP). Over the years, VIS has demonstrated consistent improvement in the IB results. Our 2022 Class IB Diploma Average Score was 32.76, above the world average of 31.98.

The diverse student body of 456 learners draws from 39 nationalities. Most families represent the non-government and diplomatic sectors; international and local businesses are also represented. Our unique VIS Personal and Home Language program currently supports the development and maintenance of 8 different languages. We also offer an English Language Acquisition (ELA) program.

At VIS, we strive to develop empathy, cultural understanding, and global awareness through meaningful interactions with the Lao community. As a Mekong River International Schools Association (MRISA) member, our students participate in sporting and cultural exchanges with schools in neighboring countries.

Our current campus facilities include two swimming pools, two soccer pitches, ample playground spaces, and a collaborative library. This year we added new buildings with:

  • A new multipurpose Performing Arts Center with a capacity of 350+ pax. Retractable seats make space versatile for events and community gatherings;
  • An indoor Gymnasium with 2 full-size basketball courts integrated into our sports hub (pool and soccer field);
  • A modern administration building with community areas.
