VIS Mission

VIS Vision

We will lead the way toward a sustainable future.

VIS Values

We value Valance, Respect, Resilience, Innovation, and Courage.

VIS Definition of Learning

We learn when we build and apply new understandings and skills in a variety of contexts.

VIS is an independent, non-profit school offering an international-standard curriculum. We are the only school in Laos accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Council of International Schools (CIS). We are also the only IB World School in the country, delivering IB Continuum Program (PYP, MYP, and DP Programmes from Early Years through Grade 12).

The diverse student body of 460 learners draws from 44 nationalities. Most families represent the non-government and diplomatic sectors; international and local businesses are also represented. Our unique VIS Mother Tongue program supports the development and maintenance of 9 different languages. We also offer an English Language Acquisition (ELA) program. In 2020, 57% of our IB Diploma graduates were awarded a bilingual diploma - well above the world average of 25%.

At VIS, we strive to develop empathy, cultural understanding, and global awareness through meaningful interactions with the Lao community. As a Mekong River International Schools Association (MRISA) member, our students participate in sporting and cultural exchanges with schools in neighboring countries.

Our current campus facilities include two swimming pools, two soccer pitches, two basketball courts, ample playground spaces, a collaborative library, a Makerspace, and a "BlackBox" Theater. Starting in December 2020, we will improve and expand our facilities through the Campus Gateway Project.

Our campus improvement will help us fulfill our school’s mission and vision: developing our learners' unique potential while leading the way toward a sustainable future. The VIS facilities will enable novel spaces that expand the learning opportunities of our students and community.

The new facilities will offer:

  • A new multipurpose Performing Arts Center with a capacity of 350+ pax. Retractable seats make space versatile for events and community gatherings;
  • A 2 full-size court, weathered Gymnasium integrated into our sports hub (pool and soccer field);
  • A modern administration building and community areas. The current offices will be learning-based spaces with a focus on literacy and innovation.

Years of strategic planning have set the ground for building new facilities without impacting our operations, budget, or the school fees.
