Nestled on a hillside within the Lake District National Park, a landscape that inspired writers such as Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth, Windermere School enjoys one of the most picturesque views in the Lake District, and arguably, the best school view in the world.
Windermere is a leading independent day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 3 to 18. It is fully co-educational and consists of the Senior School (ages 11 to 18) and Junior School (ages 3 to 11). Windermere was named as the Sunday Times 'International Baccalaureate School of the Year 2017-2018'.
A non-selective school, Windermere offers four pathways through Sixth Form with the IB which are designed to challenge, extend, motivate and inspire students. You can be confident that the path you choose will equip you with the results needed for success beyond the school gates, with a future full of possibilities.
Transcending pure academics, our guided Round Square Service programme will hone key transferable life skills and the strong self-awareness needed for you to step out into the world with confidence. As part of this holistic training, students take on responsibilities to enrich both their experience as-well-as those of the wider school and local community while enhancing their employability portfolio. From organising house events, hosting clubs, adventurous expeditions, volunteering, and going on residential trips such as our annual trip to South Africa to support Thussanang Service project, there are a vast array of opportunities available.
The Sixth Form boarding house is designed to promote the successful transition between School and Higher Education. It is laid out in university style apartments with twin and single bedrooms, a bathroom, common room, and kitchen. There is also a large communal space for socialising in which numerous socials events are held throughout the year.
The Good Schools Guide describes Windermere as "a school which revels in a hearty approach to everything from academia to friendships". In the latest inspection report by the Independent Schools' Inspectorate (February 2018), Windermere School received the highest grades for the quality of the education provided - recognised as 'Excellent' for both Academic and other achievements, and Personal Development.
