Windermere School is situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The rugged beauty of the landscape not only makes for an inspiring educational setting but enables students to make use of what surrounds them.
The curriculum offered at Windermere School reflects the belief that students should be exposed to as many opportunities as possible and leave the School as well-rounded individuals. We have offered the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme (DP) since 2009.
Windermere School is not academically selective and we aim to help each student find the pathway most suitable for their ambitions. We believe that it is essential that students have access to high quality careers advice and are given the opportunity to explore an extensive range of career options. We are committed to finding what is right for each student, whether it be the DP or Career-related programme.
Over the past few years, leavers have gone onto a variety of universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College and Durham.
We are a Round Square School and this blends perfectly with the IB philosophy and the two intersect with Service at their cores and we support many Service initiatives. Each year a group of students travel to South Africa to support the Thussanang Service project. We also support worldwide humanitarian appeals and, locally, provide support in residential care homes and with conservation projects.
There is a vast array of academic and extra-curricular opportunities available to students: School musical, sports and adventurous expeditions. The School boasts its very own RYA accredited watersports centre and in 2018 it was the first school in the UK to become a British Youth Sailing Recognised Centre for its race training.
The Sixth Form boarding house is designed to promote the successful transition between School and Higher Education. It is laid out in apartments with twin and single bedrooms, a bathroom, common room and kitchen. There is also a large communal space for socialising and numerous socials events are held throughout the year.
