St Clare's receives Eco-Schools Green Flag award

Students at St Clare’s are proud to have been awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag.

“Eco-schools is a new experience at St Clare’s. We started last year with the aim to bring students together and take environmental action. We now have 20 members” says Fabian, one of the students involved in the initiative.

Eco-Schools is a programme based on a seven-step framework that aims to tackle environmental issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss or plastic pollution (https://www.eco-schools.org.uk/about/what-is-eco-schools/).

“In order to achieve the award we worked on the St Clare’s Eco Code, organised an energy-free day among the boarding houses to see how we could save more energy and a bug house competition to highlight biodiversity around the campus”, says Lailah.

The Eco-Code below has been shared with all the students and staff at St Clare’s who positively accepted the initiative and care about these issues.

Reuse and recycle

Eliminate single-use products

Switch to low carbon

Fabian added, “In this state of global emergency, it is important as a school to take action and this is the CAS project if you want to make that change”.

The group is now already working on their next project and we look forward to seeing their great work!
