Australian International School (AIS) is excited to announce that phase one of the campus upgrades at the Thu Thiem campus in Thu Duc City (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) is now complete.

The new campus upgrades include a fantastic reception area and a number of community and breakout zones for students and parents.

Andrew Currie, Founder & Chairman of Out-2 Design describes the vision that he and the Out-2 design team created for the new spaces for students and parents.

“The first phase of our latest upgrades for the Thu Thiem Campus includes a generous entry and lobby area that intentionally connects to a completely re-purposed naturally ventilated courtyard, landscaped with mature trees, native plants, and a variety of shaded pavilions for use by students, teachers, and visitors.

“The new, light-filled entry accommodates three interconnected functional zones. To the right, the student zone provides distinct spaces for different kinds of student interaction; open seating, a playful nook and two acoustically-treated seating booths for groups.

“The visitor zone to the left is designed to feel more like a contemporary hotel lounge than your typical school waiting area. The large open reception counter provides easy access to staff, while the lounge area offers a variety of comfortable seating options for guests.

“Strategically placed in the centre is the exhibition Zone, formed by gently curved vertical screens that help to define the main circulation paths while subtly creating a focal point for student exhibitions and displays.

“A restrained colour palette of white, teal, grey and blue reflects a calm, conscientious and mature character for the first impression of the school, while the meandering ceiling feature overhead is an ever-present reminder that life is a journey with many paths to be explored.”

These projects are just the first part of the ongoing investment to enhance the educational facilities across all the Australian International School campuses. There are a number of other projects planned at the Thao Dien and Thu Thiem campuses including;

An upgrade of the entrance and community areas for parents and students at the Thao Dien campus; a modern refurbishment of the Thao Dien Kidzone changerooms; and a shade/roof cover for the sports field at the Thu Thiem campus.

Davina McCarthy, Executive Principal, commented: “It is fantastic to have new community areas that our students and parents can enjoy in a safe way. We are looking forward to seeing Phase 2 of these projects come to life and provide an even better educational experience for our students.”
